Lot # 1783: 1974 Kellogg's 3-D Uncut Sheet Collection (3 Sheets, 216 Cards) Including Four Complete Sets

Presented are four complete 54-card 1974 Kellogg's 3-D sets in a rarely seen form: on three 72-card uncut sheets. The sheets (30 x 22 inches) are labeled "Set X" thru "Set Z." The three uncut sheets are all complete final process sheets with fully printed backs. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, the Kellogg's cereal company was the only true competition for Topps in the baseball-card market. This unique design concept, which lasted for 14 years, was achieved by placing a clear color player photo between a purposely blurred stadium background scene and a layer of plastic overlay. The nature of the plastic overlay causes the cards to curl, often cracking the plastic overlay, if not stored properly. This set includes dozens of stars and Hall of Famers, including Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, Johnny Bench, and Reggie Jackson. Of course, instead of having to buy only a stick of gum to get a stack of cards, you had to buy an entire box of cereal just to get one card! This is the first 1974 Kellogg's set we have offered in this form. These sheets obviously originate from someone connected to the printing company (Xograph) or Kellogg's. It's possible they were used for proofing purposes. All three sheets display color bars along the right edge. There is no cracking to the plastic overlay. The backs are clean and boldly printed. This represents a phenomenal opportunity to acquire four complete sets of this unusual 1970s baseball series in an extremely scarce form. Total: 216 cards on three sheets.
