Original news photo of Babe Ruth during his first appearance in a Boston Braves uniform. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Ruth is captured sitting next to coach Hank Gowdy and manager Bill McKechnie during a spring training workout. On February 26, 1935, Ruth was given his unconditional release from the New York Yankees so that he could sign on with the Braves in a triple capacity: player, assistant manager, and vice president. Ruth actually had no desire to continue playing at this point. What he wanted, more than anything, was to manage at the Major League level. Ruth quickly realized that his signing was meant as a sideshow, not the springboard to a managerial role he had hoped for, and retired on June 1. The reverse bears a pair of "Keystone View" credit stamps, multiple editorial notations, and the original paper news caption displaying the handwritten date of "3/10/'35." The photo, which has been trimmed to its current dimensions of 6-5/8 x 8-1/2, exhibits surface loss along three corners and is in Good condition overall.
