Description

Impressive broadside heralding a baseball game between "Ithaca's vs. Crickets - On Cricket's Grounds, - Wednesday, July 11, 1883. - Game Called At 3 P. M." The top and bottom portions of the broadside are designed with a blank space for local promoters to fill in the pertinent information relating to the game (opponent, time, date, etc.). This piece has the game information printed on blue labels affixed to the blank spaces. The publisher "John B. Sage - Buffalo, N. Y." is printed along the lower-right corner. Advanced collectors will be familiar with this printer's name, as this is the same company that produced fold-over scorecards that were designed with colorful generic baseball scenes. The broadside (11.75 x 28 inches), which is printed on paper stock, displays several horizontal folds, edge tears on all sides, heavy creases, and light soiling front and back. Two stickers are affixed to the top edge of the reverse. Poor condition. This remains an outstanding and scarce advertising piece from the 19th century. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
