Lot # 2779: 1887 N99 Duke "Battle Scenes" Complete Set (25)

Complete 25-card set of N99 Duke "Battle Scenes." Issued with Duke's Cigarettes Honest Long Cut Tobacco, these scarce and very colorful nineteenth-century tobacco cards measure 2-1/2 by 4-1/8 inches and feature a striking colorful lithograph of a scene from the American Civil War with a caption on front. On the reverse is an explanation of the scene along with a checklist for the set and tobacco advertising for Duke's Honest Long Cut (21) or Gail & Ax's Navy Long Cut (4). The condition is 60% Gd to Vg and 40% Pr to Fr (including one with an altered reverse). This is a very attractive yet still relatively affordable complete set of this quality issue popular among nonsport collectors for its design and historical subject matter. Total: 25 cards.
