Description

Rarely offered children's "Base Ball Pencil Tablet" cover featuring Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb (cover only, notebook not present). The image of Cobb on this notebook cover will be familiar to card collectors, as it is the same image used to produce Cobb's 1925 Exhibits card. Cobb is pictured in uniform holding a bat, with a field and grandstand pictured in the background. The name "TY Cobb" and position "Center Field" are printed in the lower right quadrant. In "the olden days," notebooks with big stars and well-known players on their covers were very popular with youngsters at school. While many different cover designs exist for different players, this is the first example we have offered of this particular Cobb cover. The cover (7-3/4 x 9-7/8 inches), which is printed on thin paper stock, has been trimmed to its current dimensions. Light creasing is evident throughout and there are two staple holes and staining along the top border. Despite the flaws, the central illustration remains bright and attractive, and is ideal for display. Technically modest in grade but still a very attractive example of this rarely seen cover.
