Description

Graded FAIR 1.5 by PSA (submitted by REA). Presented is a modestly graded example of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the extremely fascinating but almost never seen Brush Automobile postcard set. In all our years, we've had just a few examples from this important set, and this is just the second Cobb example in the past 22 years. These cards are part of an advertising postcard set issued over three years (1908-1910) by the Detroit-based Brush Automobile Company featuring Detroit Tigers players endorsing Brush automobiles. This is certainly one of the rarest and earliest sets ever produced that used ballplayers to prominently endorse and advertise a product. Cobb is obviously the key card to the set. To date, only six examples (including the offered card) have been authenticated by PSA and SGC combined (PSA has certified three). The postcard (3-1/2 x 5-3/8), which has not been addressed and mailed, displays moderate corner wear, light creases, and minor soiling front and back. A very pleasing surviving example of one of Cobb's most elusive early cards.
