Lot # 665: 1926-1928 Baseball Pencil Tablet Cover Collection (10) Including Rogers Hornsby and Tris Speaker

In "the olden days," notebooks with big stars and well-known players on their covers were very popular with youngsters at school. Offered is a sizable collection of ten children's "Base Ball Pencil Tablet" covers (cover only, notebook not present), highlighted by eight Hall of Famers including Rogers Hornsby and Tris Speaker. While many different cover designs exist for different players, these are the first examples we have offered of these particular notebook covers. The collection consists of the following: Red Faber, Frank Frisch, Harry Heilmann, Rogers Hornsby, Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock, Ray Schalk, Frank Snyder, Tris Speaker, and Cy Williams. Each cover (7-3/4 x 9-7/8 inches), which is printed on thin paper stock, has been trimmed to its current dimensions. Technically the group is modest in grade due to creasing, as well as two staple holes and staining along the top border. Despite the flaws, these are still very attractive examples of these rarely seen covers. Total: 10 covers.
