Presented is a near-complete set of 85 different (out of 87) 1910 T210 Old Mill "Series 5" cards featuring Carolina Assn. players. Missing Cross and Wingo for completion (both of which are offered individually in this auction). The T210 set is actually composed of eight different series, each a set unto itself, and each representing a different minor league. The "Series 5" cards feature players from the Carolina Assn. A complete or near-complete series such as this is very rarely offered. Includes a hand cut duplicate of Bivens that is missing the normal surface gloss, otherwise grading Vg+. Condition is 29% Vg-Ex to Ex, 58% Gd to Vg, and 13% lesser. Twenty-four cards are professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for one PSA). SGC Grading Composite: EX+ 5.5 (1 card): C.G. Beusse. EX 5 (7 cards): Averett, Brannon, Corbett/glove at face level (EX 60), Dobard, Gilmore, Bobby Moore, and Williams. VG/EX+ 4.5 (3 cards): Bentley, Painter, and Rickard. VG/EX 4 (8 cards): Brent (VG/EX 50), C.L. Derrick, F.B. Derrick, Francisco (VG/EX 50), Jenkins, J. McCarthy (VG/EX 50), McEnroe, and Wynne (PSA). VG+ 3.5 (1 card): Taxis. VG 3 (3 cards): Bansewein, F. Beusse (VG 40), and Gorman (VG 40). GOOD 30 (1 card): Gorham. The T210 Old Mill Tobacco card set has always been extremely highly regarded by advanced collectors because it features so many players who appear in no other sets. It also has a very distinctive design, it is scarce compared to most other tobacco-card sets of the era, and it features striking photos that are unique to the set. The T210 Old Mill set is also well known by all collectors due to its inclusion of Joe Jackson (Series 8) and Casey Stengel (Series 6), which are regarded as two of the most famous and valuable of all baseball cards. It is virtually impossible to complete the entire set, and only a few complete sets (or even sets minus a few cards) have ever been assembled.
