Description

Graded GOOD 2 (MC) by PSA. This is the ONLY example ever graded by PSA or SGC! The 1915 T214 Victory set is an obscure series of tobacco cards issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, which is sometimes mistaken for the T206 White Border set. Victory Tobacco is one of the few sets that feature players from the Federal League, in addition to featuring players from the National and American leagues. To date, PSA has only graded 34 examples (of any player) from this set, which has a known checklist of 67 cards. Offered is a rare sample card of Dick Hoblitzell of the Boston Red Sox from the American League. It is interesting to note that although Hoblitzell is identified on this card as a member of the "Boston Amer.," he is pictured wearing his Cincinnati Reds uniform from the prior season. Victory Tobacco cards have a glossy coated surface that is very susceptible to creasing, and which makes high-grade examples particularly rare. This is a very attractive modestly graded example, with light creases and honest corner wear. The front is bright and clean with vibrant colors and outstanding registration. The important "Victory Tobacco" advertisement on the reverse has remained intact and mainly clean. An ideal sample card from this rare issue which would be at home in any Boston or prewar-card collection.
