Description

Original Murray Olderman cartoon artwork (mixed media on coquille board). Signed by the artist in the lower right. The artwork pictures New York Yankees sluggers Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris each holding their bat. Mantle's bat reads "Homer," while Maris has the word "Splurge" on his. The lettering along the top reads "Toughest Kids On The Block." Murray Olderman was an American sports cartoonists and writer (he worked for the Newspaper Enterprise Association from 1952 to 1987). Today, he is best remembered as the creator of the artwork that hung above the player's bust at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This artwork was originally purchased at the special Mickey Mantle auction conducted by Guernsey's on December 8, 2003, at Madison Square Garden in New York City; the original Guerney's auction sticker remains affixed to the front of the plastic shrink-wrapping. Dimensions: 10.75 x 13.75 inches. Fair to Good condition overall. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
