Description

Near-complete set of 132 different 1916 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by infamous "Black Sox" member Swede Risberg, and Hall of Famers Frank Chance and Billy Southworth. This set includes 131 of the 142 in the set noted as checklisted in The Standard Catalog, plus one not checklisted. One card (Decanniere - Vernon) included is not listed in the 2014 Standard Catalog checklist but is known by advanced collectors. Missing the following 11 cards for completion (as listed in the Standard Catalog):Bayless, Bodie, Callahan, Claxton, Crandall, Kelly, Larsen, McGaffigan, Speas, Wilie, and Williams. The 1916 Zeenut set is composed of players from six different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Vernon), and is considered by many to be among the rarest of all Zeenut series. A near-complete set such as this is very rarely seen. In fact, this is only the third time we have ever offered a near-set of 1916 Zeenuts. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Without respect to the neatness of the coupon removal, the condition is 12% Vg-Ex (including a couple Ex), 58% Gd to Vg, and 30% Pr to Fr (including one trimmed around the corners). Keys: Bohne (Vg), Chance (HOF, Gd+), Decanniere (Vg-Ex), Risberg (Fr), and Southworth (HOF, Fr-Gd). A very attractive medium- to lower-grade near-complete set of this rare Zeenut PCL issue. Total: 132 cards.
