Description

Near-complete set of 97 different 1917 Zeenut cards (of the 121 in the set marked as checklisted in The Standard Catalog), featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by Bill Burns and Ed Mensor. Missing the following 24 cards for completion: Baker/throwing, Baldwin, Bliss, Brown, Calvo, Chance, Conifrey, K. Crandall, Fournier, C. Hall, Harstad, Hollywood, Lapan, Leake, Maggert, Meusel, Miller/throwing, Mitchell, Schinkle, Standridge, Terry, Vaughn, Whaling, and Wilie. The 1917 Zeenut set is composed of players from six different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Vernon). A near-complete set such as this is very rarely seen. In fact, this is only the fourth time we have ever offered a near-set of 1917 Zeenuts. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. Without respect to the neatness of the coupon removal, the condition is 19% Vg-Ex or slightly better, 52% Gd to Vg, and 29% Pr to Fr. Keys: Burns (Fr) and Mensor (Gd). A very attractive medium- to lower-grade near-complete set of this rare Zeenut PCL issue. Total: 97 cards.
