Lot # 726: 1928 Exhibits PCL Near-Complete Set (31/32)

Collection of thirty-one cards (of the thirty-two in the set) from the 1928 Pacific Coast League Exhibits set, highlighted by the key card in the set: Hall of Famer Earl Averill. Missing only Bodie for completion. Includes three signed duplicates (Hannah, Hufft, and Rhodes). One of the rarest and most highly prized of all Exhibit and PCL card sets, it is not often that we see even a sample card from the 1928 PCL Exhibit set. This regional issue of thirty-two cards features players from the six California teams in the Pacific Coast League. Similar to the 1928 Major League Exhibits, the PCL cards (3-3/8 x 5-3/8 inches) have a blue tint and are blank-backed. Cards are occasionally found with a clipped corner (three cards have clipped corners in this near set), due to a stamped coupon on the reverse of some cards which could be clipped and saved for prizes. Six cards in this set display a coupon on the reverse. Condition is Pr to Fr overall (mostly Pr to Pr-Fr), with three Gd. Keys: Averill (Pr-Fr due mostly to pinhole), Hannah (signed, otherwise Pr, coupon on reverse), Hufft (signed, otherwise Pr, coupon on reverse), and Rhodes (singed, otherwise Pr, coupon on reverse). A rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set (minus one card) of these extremely rare and unusual regional PCL Exhibits from the late 1920s.
