Lot # 712: 1924 Diaz Cigarettes #3 Grover Alexander SGC POOR 10 - 1 of 1 - Highest Graded!

Offered is a very attractive example of Hall of Famer Grover Alexander (Chicago Cubs) from the 1924 Diaz Cigarettes set, catalogued as N258 in Burdick's American Card Catalog. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by SGC with none higher! To date, only 146 cards from this set have ever been graded by SGC and PSA combined. Diaz Cigarette cards are among the most elusive and unusual of all tobacco issues. The cards were printed in 1924 in Havana, Cuba, for the Diaz Cigarettes brand and feature only Major League pitchers. According to the backs of the cards, which are printed in Spanish, there are 136 cards in the set. According to The Standard Catalog, only 105 different cards, however, have been discovered to date. Graded POOR 10 by SGC the obvious condition flaws include two small tears on the right edge and moderate corner wear. The image is crisp and clean. The back is bright and crisp with bold black text. This is a very attractive Hall of Famer sample card from this rare set.
