Description

Presented is a very attractive complete set of this classic nonsport issue. Fleer's 1959 "Three Stooges" set is recognized as one of the most popular nonsport issues of the era. This set was issued when the Stooges' movie shorts were being introduced on television for the first time to a new generation of youngsters. The exposure revitalized their careers, giving them a second chance to entertain millions. This second shot of stardom resulted in even greater popularity than they had experienced in the 1930s and 1940s and ingrained the Stooges' comedy into the consciousness of America and popular culture. Naturally, many products were produced to capitalize on this stardom, including this set of bubble-gum cards. Their shorts, which were originally produced to be shown as bonuses with feature films at movie theaters, are still shown on television today, ensuring a legion of new fans in each generation and promoting the Stooges' status as American icons of comedy. The set includes six of the rarer gray-back variations (#12, 33, 35, 67, 71, and 89) and seven duplicates (#4, 8, 43, 44, 65, 67, and 70). Fifty cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT 8 (6 cards): #4 (OC), 39 (OC), 56, 65 (OC), 67 (OC, gray back), and 71 (OC). NM 7 (4 cards): #16 (ST), 44 (ST), 70 (OC), and 90. EX-MT+ 6.5 (3 cards): #12, 66, and 72. EX-MT 6 (12 cards): #4, 8, 21, 23, 31, 33 (ST), 35, 43, 46, 65, 70, and 95. EX+ 5.5 (2 cards): #10 and 26.
