Description

Presented is a very attractive near-complete set of ninety-four different cards (out of ninety-six) from the extremely popular and classic 1959 Fleer "Three Stooges" series. Missing only two cards (#1 Curly and 34) for completion. Includes seven gray-back variations (#10, 15, 17, 20, 32, 79, and 95). Condition is 17% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 55% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 28% Gd to Vg (including a couple lesser). Keys: #2 Moe (Ex+), 3 Larry (Ex due to centering), and 6 (PSA NM-MT 8). Fleer's Three Stooges sets are among the most popular nonsport issues of the era. This set was issued when the Stooges' movie shorts were being introduced for the first time to a new generation of youngsters on television. The exposure revitalized their careers, giving them a second chance to entertain millions. This second shot of stardom was even greater than what they had experienced in the 1930s and 1940s and ingrained the Stooges' comedy into the consciousness of America and popular culture. Naturally, many products were produced to capitalize on this stardom, including this set of bubble-gum cards. Their shorts, which were originally produced to be shown as bonuses with feature films at movie theaters, are still shown on television today, ensuring a legion of new fans in each generation and promoting the Stooges' status as American icons of comedy. This is a very attractive, mostly mid-grade near-complete set of this classic 1950s nonsport issue. Total: 94 cards.
