Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive 1887 N172 Old Judge of New York Giants Hall of Famer John Ward (pose #478-4). Ward is recognized as one of the most important and influential players of the 19th century. In addition to being a star pitcher, and later a standout shortstop for the New York Giants during the 1880s, he was also one of Major League Baseball's true scholars. Ward was a college graduate (Penn State) who later earned a law degree from Columbia. In 1890, Ward served as the leader of the short-lived renegade Players' League. The offered example has exceptional photo contrast and honest corner wear. The blank reverse is mostly clean. This is a strong example of one of the key Hall of Famer cards in the N172 Old Judge series.
