Description

Graded VG 3 by PSA (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example that has ever been graded by PSA! Presented is an extraordinary rarity of Hall of Famer Eppa Rixey issued by the Weil Baking Company of New Orleans. Issued in 1916, this card represents Rixey's rookie card. Weil Baking Company cards are very similar to M101-4 and M101-5 Sporting News. Perhaps because they were issued by a bakery company, Jefferson Burdick elected to give this M101-4/5 related issue its own catalog number. D329 Weil Baking are much rarer than most related issues. Weil Baking cards (as well as M101-4/5s) have a glossy coated surface, which is very susceptible to creasing. This example displays a bright and crisp image with flawless contrast. Light toning along the edges with minor wear to the corners account for the modest assigned grade. The reverse advertisement for Weil Baking Company is bold and crisp. This is an extremely striking example of Eppa Rixey featuring an ultra-rare back advertisement from one of the most important baseball-card issues of the era. A worthy addition to even the most advanced Eppa Rixey or prewar Hall of Fame rookie card collection.
