Vintage 1940s autograph album featuring over 40 signatures, including two baseball Hall of Famers. Among the signatures in the album are those of Babe Ruth (personalized), Connie Mack (signature enhanced), Dwight Eisenhower (34th U.S. President), J. Edgar Hoover (former head of the FBI), George Preston Marshall (twice, football Hall of Famer), Turk Edwards (football Hall of Famer), Wayne Millner (football Hall of Famer), Sammy Baugh (signature enhanced, football Hall of Famer), Red Auerbach (basketball Hall of Famer), Clark Shaughnessy (twice, college football coach), Arthur Godfrey (broadcaster), and Shirley Povich (sportswriter). Incredibly, each of the signatures in this album was obtained in person by our consignor's grandfather. Perhaps the most pleasing feature of this album is that our consignor's grandfather duly noted on several pages the exact date that he acquired the respective autograph, including Babe Ruth ("8/19/46"). The signatures are scripted in either blue ink or graphite pencil. Most pages display signatures on one side. According to JSA, "part of the 'To Edward' salutation of the Babe Ruth signature has been enhanced in an unknown hand. Various additional signatures were enhanced in an unknown hand." The leather album (6 x 4.75 inches) displays moderate-to-heavy wear and is in Fair condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
