Lot # 2331: Circa 1945 Babe Ruth and Carl Hubbell Dual-Signed Baseball - JSA

Offered is a Babe Ruth and Carl Hubbell signed baseball. Both Hall of Famers have signed the Wilson "Official American Association" ball in black fountain pen. Ruth's signature appears on the sweet spot, while Hubbell's signature is located on a side panel. The ball is lightly toned and displays a number of scattered abrasions. The manufacturer's stampings are faded but remain legible. In Good condition overall. According to our consignor, this ball was signed on August 28, 1945, at the Polo Grounds in New York City. The best young players in the country at the time were assembled to play an "East vs. West" exhibition game. The game was sponsored by Esquire Magazine. The honorary managers chosen for the teams were none other then two of the greatest legends in the history of the game: Babe Ruth to represent the East squad and Ty Cobb to represent the West squad. Carl Hubbell was in attendance as the pitching coach. This ball originates from the personal collection of Curt Simmons, who was a former Major League pitcher with four different teams, mostly with the Philadelphia Phillies (1947-1960) and St. Louis Cardinals (1960-1966).
