Description

Rare Hall of Fame black-and-white postcard (Albertype, Type 2) of Honus Wagner signed by him in black fountain pen along the base. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the card and graded the signature NM-MT 8. The year, "1949," is written directly below Wagner's signature. Wagner was one of the first five players inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson, in 1936. He was also one of the then-living 11 members of the Hall of Fame to appear at the dedication of the Hall of Fame in 1939. Despite Wagner's early entry into the Hall of Fame, and the fact that he lived until 1955 and was an accommodating signer, his signed black-and-white Hall of Fame postcards are rare. This is just the third example we have offered in the past 21 years. The postcard (3.5 x 5.5 inches) displays a few light creases and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. This is an outstanding example of this significant Hall of Fame rarity.
