Very attractive near-complete set of thirty-one different 1948 Hall of Fame Exhibits (out of thirty-three in the set). These unnumbered black-and-white (in some cases green-tint) Exhibit cards feature all-time great Hall of Famers, and no doubt instilled a great appreciation of baseball history in youngsters of the day. The 1948 Hall of Fame Exhibit cards were issued on cardboard stock and each card has the player's brief biography printed along the bottom. The set is naturally highlighted by many of the great legends of the game, including Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth (two different poses, with the batting pose included here), Tris Speaker, Honus Wagner, and Cy Young. This set was reproduced in 1977 and the reproductions (which are printed in various colors) sometimes cause confusion. This set is missing only Cobb and Ruth/standing with bats for completion. The condition of the set is 16% Ex, 71% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 13% lesser. Keys: Gehrig (trimmed top edge, otherwise Pr), Johnson (Vg), Mathewson (Vg+), Ruth/batting (Vg), Wagner (Vg+), and Young (Vg-Ex). This is a very attractive near-complete set of this classic and often overlooked 1948 Exhibit Supply Company issue. Total: 31 cards.
