Presented is a rarely offered complete set of eighteen 1954 Dixie Lids plus one variation. Dixie Lids are one of the most fascinating of all food issues in that they were designed as tops for the company's line of ice-cream products and featured well-known sports and movie stars on the inside as a further enticement to young consumers. Originally created in the 1930s, the idea was revived in the early 1950s. The 1954 set includes several variations that make assembling a complete master set very difficult. The lids can be found in three different sizes: "small" (2-1/4 inches in diameter), "medium" (2-11/16 inches, the most commonly found size), and "large" (3-3/16 inches). This set consists entirely of the "medium" variety. Lids can also be found with either right or left tabs, with this collection offering twelve "left" tabs and seven "right" tabs. Includes both tab variations of Jackie Jensen, with the "left" version still having the protective coating over the front. Without reference to the natural creasing of the tabs, the condition is 48% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a couple better), 21% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 31% lesser (including Woodling due to a missing tab). Keys: Ashburn (Ex, right tab), Irvin (Ex due to centering, left), Kiner (Ex, left), Kluszewski (Fr, right), Minoso (Nr/Mt, left), Schoendienst (Ex, right), and Slaughter (Ex-Mt, left). An attractive and rarely seen complete set of this scarce and extremely unusual issue. Total: 19 lids (set of 18 plus one variation).
