Description

Presented is a very attractive and substantial collection of 1971 Topps Super, consisting of a near-complete set of 52 different cards (out of 63 in the set) plus 80 duplicates. The collection is highlighted by many Hall of Famers and stars including Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, and Roberto Clemente. 1) Near-Complete Set (52/63): Condition is 69% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint) and 31% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few lesser and a few with a slightly miscut side edge [including Killebrew and Stargell]). Three cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #32 Bench (EX 5), 37 Clemente (slightly miscut left edge, otherwise Nr/Mt), 38 Jackson (Nr/Mt), 44 Aaron (Nr/Mt), 48 Gibson (MINT 9), and 59 B. Robinson (MINT 9). Missing the following eleven cards for completion: #17, 20 Rose, 23, 24, 27, 33, 34, 36, 52, 56 Mays, and 61. 2) Duplicates (80, including 38 different): Condition is 42% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 26% Ex to Ex-Mt, 17% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 15% lesser (including a few with a slightly miscut side edge). Keys: Two #32 Bench (Nr/Mt-Mt and Vg), 38 R. Jackson (Gd), three 48 Gibson, three 49 Yastrzemski, 53 Seaver, and three 59 B. Robinson. Because of their high-quality production values and scarcity relative to other Topps sets of the era, it is a little surprising that this issue has not received more attention from collectors, but this is primarily because for many years grading companies did not have holders for this large-format issue. This is no longer the case, and collectors can now build sets of these cards in graded form just like they've done for many years with standard-sized cards. A very attractive mid- to high-grade collection with several notable highlights. Total: 132 cards.
