Exceedingly rare large-format Ted Williams advertising display issued in promotion of "Ted's Creamy Root Beer." This piece should not be confused with the smaller, more commonly seen, standard "Ted's Creamy Root Beer" counter displays, which measure 15 x 10 inches. Encompassing a full 30 x 20 inches, this extraordinary large version (it is more than four times the size of the smaller version) was unknown until a find of a few several years ago. This is only the third example of this large-format display we have handled. It is magnificent! Williams was a longtime spokesperson for Moxie, a top-selling soft-drink marketed in the New England area, and his enormous popularity soon gave rise to his own brand of root beer (produced by the manufacturers of Moxie). The colorful cardboard advertising sign, which features an easel back to allow for either floor or counter display in retail venues, pictures a large image of Williams in uniform in promotion of the beverage bearing his name. This is an exceptional point-of-sale advertising piece and the "granddaddy" of all Ted Williams advertising displays. In addition to its rarity, this piece is also notable for its remarkable state of preservation. Aside from a few spots of light surface wear, the sign looks almost as it did when originally issued in the late 1950s/early 1960s. In apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 37.5 x 27.5 inches. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
