Lot # 2824: 1950 Topps "Hopalong Cassidy" Complete Set (230) Plus Complete Eight-Card Foil Subset

Complete set of this very early Topps issue featuring William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy. "Hoppy" was very popular with kids and was a natural to be the subject of a card set in the earliest days of the Topps Gum Company. Also included with the set are all eight scarce unnumbered foil cards, which are considered by most to be a separate issue, as well as six duplicates (#20, 54, 70, 123, and two 169). The complete 230-card (#1-230) "Hopalong Cassidy" set narrates ten different stories. Cards feature photographs from both the movies and the TV show. The condition of the set is 69% Vg to Vg-Ex (including 4% Ex) and 31% lesser. The condition of the foil header cards is: Dangerous Venture (Pr), Borrowed Trouble (Pr-Fr), Hoppy's Holiday (Pr-Fr), False Paradise (Pr), Unexpected Guest (Pr-Fr), Devil's Playground (Pr-Fr), The Dead Don't Dream (Pr), and Fool's Gold (slight trim, otherwise Pr). This is a very tough set rarely offered complete in any grade and of enormous significance as one of the earliest card sets ever issued by Topps.
