Description

Presented is a complete 203-card set of Topps "Freedom's War," one of the most comprehensive sets of military cards ever produced. Included are nine variations and a rare cellophane wrapper. The "Freedom's War" set includes Korean War scenes, combat training, military insignia, weapons, medals, generals, airplanes, ships, and even a set of die-cut tanks that could be made into stand-up toys. Topps used multicolored artwork and photographs in the production of the set, which was distributed in three printings over a two-year period that began in Summer 1950. The set consists primarily of tan-back variations but does include fifteen gray-backs (#1, 36, 38, 46, 48, 51, 58, 72, 84, 107, 118, 175, 193, 197, and 202). This set includes both back variations for #48 and 202 as well as both the die-cut and rare non-die-cut versions for cards #97-103. Condition is 32% Ex to Ex-Mt, 62% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 6% lesser. The die-cut tank cards grade Ex-Mt, two Vg-Ex, four Vg. The non-die-cut tank cards grade Ex, Vg-Ex, three Vg, Gd, and Fr. Two cards have been graded by PSA: #72 (EX-MT 6, gray back) and 102 (EX-MT 6, die-cut). The original cello wrapper is in modest condition with the top flap on the reverse having separated. Very attractive complete set of these popular military cards from the early 1950s. Total: 213 items (set of 203 plus nine variations and one wrapper).
