Lot # 2450: 1963 Willie Mays Day at Polo Grounds Original The Sporting News Photograph PSA/DNA Type I

Original news photo of Willie Mays during "Willie Mays Day" held at the Polo Grounds on May 3, 1953. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Mays is pictured with his hands in the air and a throng of fans behind him, with two fans holding a sign reading "We Love, Willie/We Love, Mets." While Mays was a member of the San Francisco Giants at the time, the city wanted to honor Mays, as several of his iconic moments came while the Giants were based in New York and played at the Polo Grounds. The reverse displays a "The Sporting News" credit stamp and an editorial notation. The photo displays a few light creases and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall.
