Lot # 1648: 1971 Topps Super Collection (138) Including Near-Complete and Partial Sets

Presented is a very substantial and attractive collection of 1971 Topps Super consisting of a near-complete set (54/63), a partial set (37/63), and 47 duplicates. The collection is highlighted by many Hall of Famers and stars including Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Reggie Jackson, and Hank Aaron. This collection consists of the following: 1) Near-Complete Set (54/63): Condition is 66% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a few Mint) and 34% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few slightly lesser and a few with a slight miscut). Keys: #37 Clemente (Ex), 38 Jackson (Nr/Mt), 44 Aaron (PSA MINT 9 [ST]), and 56 Mays (Ex-Mt). Missing the following nine cards for completion: #8, 20 Rose, 35, 39, 40, 49, 50, 57, and 58. 2) Partial Set (37/63) Plus 47 Duplicates: Condition is 35% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint), 29% Ex to Ex-Mt, 16% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 20% lesser (including a few with a slight miscut). Keys: #38 Jackson (Vg-Ex), three 44 Aaron (Nr/Mt, Ex-Mt, and Vg-Ex), and two 56 Mays (Vg-Ex and Gd). Missing the following twenty-six cards for completion: #3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 14, 20 Rose, 22, 27, 31, 35, 36, 37 Clemente, 39, 40, 41, 47, 49, 50, 53, 57, 58, 61, and 63. Includes the following forty-seven duplicates: Two #2, three #7, two 9, three 10, 11, two 17, two 23, two 24, two 25, 28, three 29, 30, six 33, 34, 43, two 44 Aaron, 46, five 48, 51, two 52, 54, 55, 56 Mays, and 62. Because of their high-quality production values and scarcity relative to other Topps sets of the era, it is a little surprising that this issue has not received more attention from collectors, but this is primarily because for many years grading companies did not have holders for this large-format issue. This is no longer the case, and collectors can now build sets of these cards in graded form just like they've done for many years with standard-sized cards. There is a lot of value to be mined in this lot, and it offers excellent break value and potential dealer inventory. Total: 138 cards.
