Presented is a near-complete set of 1953 Glendale Meats consisting of 23 different of the 28 cards in the set. In the world of early 1950s regional issues, few deserve more respect than the 28-card set of Detroit Tigers issued by Glendale Meats. Their striking design and legendary rarity have always made Glendales one of the most significant and desirable regional issues of the era. Issued one card per pack of Glendale hot dogs, kids had to be dedicated to hot dogs to consider building a serious collection. The reverse of each card invites youngsters to collect the set and mail them in to Glendale to potentially win one of three pairs of tickets to the World Series. Because of how they were issued, condition has always been a problem with Glendales in general. This set is missing the rare Art Houtteman card (which has long been recognized as one of the great regional-issue rarities of the era) as well as the following four cards: Bucha, Erickson, Hatfield, and Wight. Twenty-two cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (21) and SGC (1). Grading Composite: EX 5 (1 card): Pesky. VG-EX 4 (4 cards): Friend, Garver, Herbert, and Jordan. VG 3 (4 cards): Gray, Lund, Marlowe (SGC VG 40), and Souchock (MK). GOOD 2 (3 cards): Hitchcock, Hoeft, and Sullivan. FAIR 1.5 (3 cards): Delsing, Dropo, and Kuenn. POOR 1 (7 cards): Batts, Carswell, Foytack, Madison, Mullin, Nieman, and Priddy. Included is an unencapsulated example of Joe Ginsburg (Fr, due mostly to staining). This is a very rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of this unique and classic 1950s regional food issue. Total: 23 cards.
