Description

Cooperstown Collection Danbury Mint figurine display depicting Willie Mays' dramatic over-the-shoulder catch during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series. In the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2, runners on first and second, and no outs, Cleveland's Vic Wertz hit a 450-foot drive to right-center field at the Polo Grounds. Mays, playing a shallow centerfield, ran to the wall with his back to the plate and caught the ball over his head. His perfect throw back to the infield prevented the runners from advancing, completely shifting the momentum of the game. The Giants would go on to win the game in extra innings. Each figurine measures roughly six inches tall, and the wooden base measures 14 inches long; Near Mint to Mint condition overall and remains housed in its original shipping box. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
