Lot # 2959: 1960s Topps "Batman" Complete Set Collection (10 Sets, 447 Cards)

Batman took the world by storm in 1966 with the introduction of the wildly popular Batman television series. Topps and other manufacturers joined the bandwagon with several series of card sets devoted to the Caped Crusader. This collection includes the following 10 complete sets of Batman: 1) 1966 Topps "Batman" complete set (55): Condition is 27% Ex or slightly better and 73% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). 2) 1966 Topps "Batman - A Series" complete set (44) plus wrapper: Condition is 22% Ex to Ex-Mt (including one Nr/Mt) and 78% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). The wrapper (umpire's indicator variation) grades Vg-Ex. 3) 1966A&BC "Batman - A Series" complete set (44): Condition is 20% Ex, 64% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 16% lesser. 4) 1966 Topps "Batman - Riddler Back" complete set (38) plus "secret decoder" insert and wrapper: Condition ranges from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), with a couple Ex-Mt and one with color added. The decoder grades Vg-Ex. The wrapper (camera offer variation) grades Pr-Fr due to staple damage near three corners. 5) 1966 Topps Batman "Bat Laffs" complete set (55) plus wrapper:Condition is 83% Vg-Ex to Ex (approximately two-thirds Vg-Ex), and 17% Gd to Vg. The wrapper grades Gd overall, with the tip of one corner missing. 6) 1966 Topps "Batman - B Series" cowl back complete set (44) plus wrapper: Condition is 18% Ex-Mt or slightly better and 82% Vg-Ex to Ex (including a few lesser). The wrapper grades Fr due to a small piece missing from the left edge. 7) 1966 Topps "Batman - B Series" puzzle back complete set (44):Condition is 18% Ex and 82% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). 8) 1966 MacLeans Tooth Paste "Batman" complete set (37) plus three "Wham! Pow! Bang!" duplicates: Condition is 82% Vg to Vg-Ex and 18% lesser. 9) 1966 Nabisco Weeties & Rice Krinkles "Batman" complete set (36) plus two "Wham! Pow! Bang!" duplicates: Condition is Ex to Ex-Mt overall due to foxing, with a few lesser (including the three "Wham! Pow! Bang!" cards). 10) 1966 Whitman "Batman Playing Cards" complete set (45): Condition is 84% Nr/Mt or better and 16% ranging from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex and including one lesser due to small pen marks on the reverse). Also included are three 1966 "Batman and Robin" Vari-vue lenticular key chain charms (Ex/Ex-Mt overall due to scratching). This is a very substantial and attractive mid-grade complete-set collection. Total: 455 items (447 cards, four wrappers, three lenticulars, and one decoder insert).
