Description
Free frank of James Monroe (1758-1831), fifth president of the United States (1817-1825). Signed by Madison in black ink in the upper right. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the "envelope" and certified the signature as "Authentic." The free frank (5.25 x 3.25 inches) bears a postmark dated "Nov 4" and is addressed and dated (Nov 4, 1820) in Monroe's hand. Good condition overall largely due to scattered staining.
