Description

Vintage photo of Ty Cobb sliding into third base, taken by renowned baseball photographer Charles Conlon. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type IV photograph by PSA/DNA. As noted by PSA/DNA, this photo is a "later-issued 1930 example that was made off a duplicate negative." This particular Conlon photo, which pictures Cobb sliding into New York Highlanders third baseman Jimmy Austin at the Polo Grounds in 1910, remains the quintessential image of baseball's fiercest competitor. It is known that Cobb had copies of these photos made for his personal use, which he sometimes used to accommodate autograph requests by his many fans. Despite that fact, even vintage prints such as this are scarce today. The reverse bears a "APR 17 1930" date stamp and several editorial notations. While the photo (8 x 10-1/8 inches) is technically in Poor condition overall due to multiple chipped corners and scattered creasing, the central image is largely unaffected.
