Collection of three different Topps cartoon artworks used in the production of the 1969 Topps baseball series, the 1970 Topps football series, and the 19xx Topps hockey series. These are the actual cartoon artworks which appear on the backs of the standard Topps cards, adding a little humor and extra content to the reverses of the cards, as was standard practice for many Topps sets beginning in the 1950s. These artworks were purchased at the famous 1989 Topps/Guernsey's auction. This collection consists of the following: 1) Nine 1969 Topps baseball artworks. The original black-and-white ink artworks are all executed on a thin board stock. The corresponding card number and player name has been added by Topps to each artwork, either in the margin or in a blank area of the artwork that could easily be cropped out during production. This was done to make sure that the correct artwork was assigned to the correct player for card design. Includes #355 P. Niekro (HOF), 357 Taylor, 359 Kelley, 360 J. Wynn, 364 Agee, 366 Belinsky, 402 Boswell, 409 Moose, and 411 Dierker. Dimensions: 14.25 x 10.5 inches. 2) Eight 1970 Topps football artworks. Includes #180 Unitas (HOF), 182 Jeter, 185 Partee, 189 Hayes (HOF), 193 Scarpati, 195 McCullough, 201 Curtis, and 203 Petitbon. Dimensions: 7.25 x 11 inches. 3) Twelve 1970s Topps hockey artworks (not sure the exact year). The original black-and-white ink artworks are all executed on a thin board stock. The corresponding card number has been added by Topps to each artwork, both in the margin and in a blank area of the artwork that could easily be cropped out during production. This was done to make sure that the correct artwork was assigned to the correct player for card design. Includes #195, 196, 197, 198, 203, 204, 205, 206, 216, 217, 218, and 219. Dimensions: 10.5 x 13.75 inches. All the artworks are in apparent Excellent condition. Each is matted and ready to be framed. These are fascinating original artworks that are ideal for display with their respective issued cards. Total: 3 artworks. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
