Description

Ozzie Smith H&B signature-model "S315" bat dating from the 1978-1979 manufacturing period. Graded GU 9.5 by PSA/DNA. This is a scarce rookie-era Smith bat and one that displays heavy use along its entire length. The bat shows numerous ball and stitch marks along the barrel as well as cleat marks. A light coat of pine tar has been applied to the cracked handle (which has been professionally repaired). "OZ" and Smith's number ("1") are written in black marker on the knob. Smith has signed the bat in black ink below the center brand. In Smith's 19 seasons, he led the league in fielding percentage at his position seven times and garnered 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards between the years 1980 and 1992. A 15-time All-Star, Smith was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002, his first year of eligibility. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 30.1 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (bat only, corresponding sticker affixed to the barrel end). Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (signature only). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
