Willie McCovey H&B signature-model ("K75") bat dating from the 1977-1978 labeling period. Graded GU 9.5 by PSA/DNA. The bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of heavy use along its entire length, including numerous ball marks (with black ink transfers), ball-stitch impressions, green and orange bat rack streaks, and a light application of pine tar on the upper handle. McCovey's number ("44") is written on the knob in red marker. McCovey has signed the bat in marker on the barrel. McCovey began his Major League career in 1959 with the Giants, and even though he appeared in only 52 games that year, his 13 home runs, 38 RBI, and .354 average earned him the Rookie of the Year Award. Over the course of the next 21 seasons, McCovey was one of the game's greatest sluggers, and his lifetime total of 521 home runs ties him for 20th on the all-time list with Ted Williams and Frank Thomas. Included among many individual achievements are three home-run titles (1963, 1968, and 1969) and one MVP Award (1969). McCovey was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1986. Length: 35.5 inches. Weight: 33.1 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (bat only, corresponding sticker affixed to the knob end). Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (autograph only). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
