Graded VG 3 by PSA. Presented is a very rare example of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Babe Ruth from the enigmatic Henry Johnson Confectioner set. To date, PSA has encapsulated only five examples of this card and SGC has evaluated one example. This is one of two highest graded examples by PSA! It is rare to find even a common player sample card from this issue, let alone a major Hall of Famer. An example from the Henry Johnson Confectioner set is missing from almost every advanced sample-card collection, and this is the only example of Ruth we have offered in the last two decades! Cards from this set are closely related in design to the E121 American Caramel and W575-1 series. The blank reverse was available to a retailer like Henry Johnson to stamp as a promotional vehicle. The back stamping, which is faint in some areas on this example, displays the Henry A. Johnson Wholesalers name along with an Oakland, Calif. address and phone number. The front of the card displays a very strong image of Ruth in a throwing pose, even wear to the corners, and outstanding centering. The reverse has a light stain in the lower left. This is an outstanding example of one of Babe Ruth's rarest and most classic 1920s cards and one that would be a worthy addition to any high-quality Babe Ruth or prewar-card collection.
