Description

Presented is a rarely offered example of legendary Hall of Famer Cy Young in uniform from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. Young is one of the key Hall of Famers from this extremely substantial cabinet-card set, which is one of the highest-quality baseball card issues ever produced. Three different variations of Young (all in uniform) were issued in W600: one bearing a specific 1902 date on front and Young featured with a mustache, one with a Boston team designation (1904), and one with a Cleveland team designation (1909). The offered example is the "Boston" team variation issued in 1904. Young's image is bright and crisp on the offered example with outstanding photo contrast. Graded GOOD 2 (MK) by PSA, the offered example is particularly appealing with a perfect central image of Young set against the ornate W600 borders. Some light unobtrusive staining is present on the edges along with light creasing in the top right corner. Young's name ("Young, Denton True") is scripted in black ink along the top edge of the blank reverse in an unknown hand, which accounts for the "MK" qualifier, and a small spot of paper loss is present. This is an exceptionally attractive example of one of Cy Young's rarest and most striking cards and one that would be a significant addition to a serious Hall of Fame, W600, or prewar card collection.
