Lot # 2296: 1928 New York Yankees World Champions Team-Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig - JSA

Official American League baseball (Barnard) signed in black fountain pen by 20 members of the 1928 World Champion New York Yankees, including Ruth (sweet spot), Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, Pennock, Hoyt, Bengough, Pipgras, Coveleski, Grabowski, Paschal, Dugan, Koenig, Collins, and Robertson. The signatures of Yankees Hall of Famers Phil Rizzuto (who began his career in 1941) and Mickey Mantle (who began his career in 1951) appear in blue ink and were added at a much later date. Mantle scripted his name on the sweet spot directly above Ruth's signature and Rizzuto penned his on a side panel. The 1928 New York Yankees, powered by Ruth and Gehrig, once again led the Major Leagues in home runs en route to their second consecutive pennant. Like the year before, the Yankees made short work of their National League rivals in the World Series, sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in four straight games to cement their legacy as one of the greatest teams of all time. The ball has a number of light surface abrasions and minor toning, and the manufacturer's stampings are slightly faded in some areas. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
