Official American League baseball (Harridge) signed in black fountain pen by 22 members of the 1934 New York Yankees. The signatures appearing on the ball include those of Ruth (sweet spot), Gehrig, Lazzeri, Gomez, Dickey, Ruffing, Combs, Byrd, Jorgens, Devens, Murphy, Chapman, Uhle, Crosetti, Allen, Van Atta, Lary, Walker, MacFayden, and Rolfe. (Please note the signatures of Heffner and Hoag have been deemed clubhouse examples by JSA.) Although the Yankees finished in second place in 1934, it marked a turning point in Gehrig's fabled career, as he finally emerged from Ruth's enormous shadow. For the first time, Gehrig eclipsed Ruth in home runs, hitting a league-leading 49 to Ruth's 22. Gehrig also led the league in RBI (166) and batting average (.363), which earned him the Triple Crown. The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac, the surface of which displays a few minor abrasions. All of the manufacturer's stampings are bold and legible. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
