On June 9, 1906, the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates played one of the Deadball Era's most unusual contests. After the Pirates erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, the Phillies stalled and committed several intentional misplays in hopes that darkness, rain, or a combination of both would halt play before the inning was completed. Had the game been called at that point, the score would have reverted to what it was at the end of the seventh inning, giving Philadelphia the victory. Umpire Bill Klem quickly recognized the foul play and repeatedly warned the Phillies to stop before ultimately declaring a forfeit and awarding Pittsburgh a 9-0 victory. Offered is a ticket stub from this infamous game. The ticket stub (2-3/4 x 1-3/8 inches) features handwritten notes about the contest on the front, but is otherwise Very Good to Excellent condition overall.
