Lot # 2601: 1988-1989 Barry Bonds Pittsburgh Pirates Professional Model Bat PSA/DNA GU 8

Barry Bonds Louisville Slugger signature-model ("H238") bat dating from the 1988-1989 manufacturing period. The bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of outstanding use, including ball marks, ball-stitch impressions, blue bat rat streaks, cleat marks, and a light coat of pine tar on the handle. While Bonds' uniform number ("24") is written on the knob, it is colored over. The uniform number ("15"), which Bonds' teammate Doug Drabeck wore, is written in silver marker on the colored over knob. Drabeck's number as is also written on the top of the barrel. As PSA/DNA notes in their accompanying letter, "The grade of 8 is awarded to the bat as a Doug Drabeck game-used bat, however, we cannot fully dismiss use on the bat by Barry Bonds." Bonds was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1988 and 1989 seasons. While he was a very good everyday player during those two years, it wasn't until the following season (1990), when he won his first MVP award, that he emerged as one of the game's great stars.
