Description

Gold Smith right-handed fielder's glove, game-used by New York Yankees Hall of Fame pitcher Waite Hoyt, circa 1928-1930. The glove, which displays heavy game wear, is constructed of Gold Smith's premium cowhide and is bound with rawhide laces. The palm of the glove is torn and a vintage repair can be seen on the face of the thumb sleeve. Hoyt later signed the glove in black marker along the palm. A picture of Hoyt as a Yankee and a note from him that identifies the glove as one he wore in the 1920s accompany the offered glove. As PSA/DNA notes, however, "no claim has been made for the pictured and subject glove to be the same." In addition to his Hall of Fame status, Hoyt was also a key member of the 1927 Yankees, considered by many to be the greatest team in baseball history. Full LOA from noted glove expert Dennis Esken of PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (signature only).
