Official American League baseball (Johnson) used in Game 2 of the 1913 World Series between the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Giants at Shibe Park. In a duel between future Hall of Fame pitchers, Christy Mathewson defeated Eddie Plank 3-0 in ten innings to even the Series. In addition to pitching a shutout, Mathewson also drove in the game-winning run off Plank. Plank and the Athletics would have the last laugh, however, winning the next three games and the Series, giving manager Connie Mack his third World Championship in four years. The red-and-blue stitched ball features heavy wear, with soiling and several surface abrasions visible throughout. The league stamping, while affected, is still legible. Per the black ink writing on the side panels, this ball was pitched by Plank and hit by Mathewson during Game 2. Full LOA from MEARS.
