One of the most famous baseball photographs of all time is the one picturing the first 10 living members of the Hall of Fame posing together on the dais at the dedication of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939 (Ty Cobb was late to the ceremony and was therefore not included in the photo). This spectacular wall display features a 19 x 16-inch (visible dimensions) print of that image, matted together with the signatures of the 10 pictured players inducted between 1936 and 1939, along with the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Kenesaw Mountain Landis. The 10 pictured members are Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Connie Mack, Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Nap Lajoie, Grover Alexander, George Sisler, Tris Speaker, and Eddie Collins. In addition to the signatures, a pair of baseball centennial logos flank the photo. This display was assembled with great care by our consignor, who obtained the 10 signatures on a variety of different mediums for use in this project. A variety of cuts, envelopes, and letters bear the signatures of these famous ballplayers, which have been rendered in a myriad of inks. The value and desirability of the signatures aside, this piece, which measures 46 x 35 inches, is one of the most visually impressive and well-conceived signature displays we have seen. This is simply an extraordinary museum-caliber framed signature display. This piece presents in remarkable Near Mint condition and is obviously the result of a tremendous amount of time, energy and expense. We can't imagine anyone disassembling this magnificent framed display but the individual pieces do, naturally, have a very substantial break value. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
