Complete set of this very early Topps issue featuring William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy. "Hoppy" was very popular with kids and was a natural to be the subject of a card set in the earliest days of the Topps Gum Company. Also included with the set are all eight scarce unnumbered foil cards (which are considered by most to be a separate issue), three Fyna Foods (Australia) "Hoppy Western" cards (episodes 1 [Vg-Ex], 12 [Vg], and 16 [Ex] of "Silent Conflict"), and four original wrappers. The complete 230-card (#1-230) "Hopalong Cassidy" set narrates ten different stories. Cards feature photographs from both the movies and the TV show. The condition of the set is 14% Ex-Mt or slightly better, 59% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 27% Gd to Vg (including a couple lesser). One card has been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA: #191 (EX-MT 6). The condition of the foil header cards is: Dangerous Venture (Vg-Ex), Borrowed Trouble (Gd), Hoppy's Holiday (Vg+), False Paradise (Gd+), Unexpected Guest (Vg-Ex), Devil's Playground (Vg), The Dead Don't Dream (Vg-Ex), and Fool's Gold (Fr). Includes the following four flattened wrappers: green one-cent wrapper (Vg-Ex), white one-cent wrapper (slightly trimmed and repaired with tape, otherwise Vg), five-cent wrapper (trimmed and altered, otherwise Gd), and 1950s candy wrapper (Pr-Fr). This is a very tough set, rarely offered complete in any grade, and of enormous significance as one of the earliest card sets ever issued by Topps. Total: 245 Items (241 cards and four wrappers).
