Description

Presented is a near-complete set (27 different of 32 in the set not including denomination variations) of R118 "Presidents Play Bucks" issued by the Dietz Gum Co. of Chicago in 1937. Missing the following five subjects for completion: Van Buren, W. Harrison, Tyler, Cleveland (22nd), and Cleveland (24th). One "Presidential Play Buck" was given free with each piece of one-cent Presidents Chewing Gum. "Presidents Play Bucks" are designed in the style of currency, and feature the first thirty-two Presidents of the United States, from George Washington through FDR. Each insert currency measures 5.25 x 2.25 inches and the front of each currency depicts a portrait image of the great leaders of our nation with a bio on the reverse. Included are three denomination variations (Coolidge, Hoover, and FDR). All currencies have a vertical fold line down the center as issued, ranging in condition from Fr to Vg (averaging Gd) with one Pr and three slightly higher. Two items have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA: Garfield (EX 5, lightly scratched holder) and Washington/$1000 (VG-EX 4). Dietz Gum "Presidents Play Bucks" are one of the most unusual and fascinating of all nonsport sets, and are naturally highly prized by both historical collectors and 1930s nonsport gum-card collectors. This is a very presentable medium- to lower-grade near-complete set of these striking and rare gum card-related items. Total: 30 currencies (near set of 27 plus three variations).
