Description

In the nineteenth-century, tobacco companies issued cards featuring an almost infinite variety of subjects in their effort to captivate the interest of customers. Duke's "Habitations of Man" is one of the most distinctive and fascinating of these marketing efforts. This very attractive near-complete set (24 out of 25) of "Habitations of Man" cards presents some of the finest artwork to ever appear on any tobacco series. The set presents a wide variety of family dwellings representing different cultures from all over the world. The cards were distributed with Duke's Honest Long Cut brand tobacco. Missing only "Hut in Daman-L-Koh" for completion. Condition is seven Gd to Vg and seventeen Pr to Fr (mostly due to pinholes). The back of each card features a checklist for the set. This is a very presentable medium- to lower-grade near-complete set (minus one), with fascinating subject matter and excellent eye-appeal. Duke's "Habitations of Man" are highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Dimensions: 2-1/2 x 4-1/8 inches. Total: 24 cards.
