Exceedingly rare 1908 Boston Red Sox fold-out postcard. This is one of two different Boston Red Sox fold-out postcard issued in 1908, but this design is far more attractive and scarcer than its counterpart. This is only the second example of this particular postcard we have ever offered. The colorful design features the year and team logo at the top and a game-in-progress illustration along the base. In the center are two flaps bearing, respectively, the portrait images of Cy Young and manager Deacon McGuire. The flaps open up to reveal individual portrait images of 18 additional team members (stacked accordion style), with nine players on each side. Included here are Eddie Cicotte, Jake Stahl, Bill Carrigan, Heinie Wagner, Lou Criger, Harry Lord, Doc Gessler, Amby McConnell, Jack Thoney, and Cy Morgan. Each player is identified in print below his image. A 1908 copyright by “H. N. Dickerman” appears on the front in the lower left corner. The postcard (3.5 x 5.5 inches), which includes its original ribbon closure on the front, has been addressed and mailed, with the postmark dated “Boston, Mass. Aug. 24 1908.” There is an ink notation on the inside flap of the McGuire portrait. Twelve of the player portraits on the interior pages have the player's name scripted in black ink. In Fair condition overall. Despite its technical grade, this is an outstanding example of this great rarity and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Boston Red Sox collection.
